The RSF Is a non-profit organization set up by five people who held Rick near and dear to their hearts - his children, Laura and Kris Shingleton; and his best friends, Bill Grosdidier, Bob Hanson, and Jeff Hanson. They serve as the board members of the foundation. The foundation's goal is to keep Ricky's memory alive through what he loved most, his family, his friends and sports.
The Richard Shingleton Foundation is dedicated to supporting student athletes attending Title 1 schools. The RSF empowers youth by providing scholarship opportunities to summer camp, sports clinics, outdoor activities focused on mental and physical fitness, and supporting dreams of success beyond high school.
The RSF hosts the annual Richard Shingleton Golf Memorial to remember the life of Ricky, enjoy a round of golf, and commemorate on a lifetime of shenanigans. Join us as we recognize our generous sponsors and promote local small businesses.
Our current initiatives include:
- Sponsorship of local youth golf tournaments
- Sponsoring athletic programs in Title 1 KCKS schools
- Scholarship opportunities coming in 2024
Rick loved sports. If you could throw it, bounce it, hit it, or roll it, Rick was ready to play. He passed his passion for sports onto his children. He encouraged them to play every sport - basketball, softball, wrestling, football, bowling, golf… try it all.
These are the memories that last a lifetime.
Playing a sport is more than staying fit. Sports activity helps children develop and improve cognitive skills. Physical activity in general is associated with improved academic achievement, including grades and standardized test scores. High school athletes are more likely than non-athletes to attend college and graduate. Relationships developed while participating in youth sports go beyond the gridiron or diamond. Friendships forged during the season are essential for mental, emotional, and physical health throughout the high school years. Students bond together over a common passion, and the time they spend together at practice and games builds a comradery that often last a lifetime.
Each year The Richard Shingleton Foundation hosts two annual events. In September, we host the annual golf tournament and each Spring, we host a bowling tournament with our sponsor, Mission Bowl. These are two of the many activities Rick enjoyed!
Revenue generated from these events allow the foundation to provide athletic equipment and enrichment opportunities to students in vulnerable areas, specifically Title 1 schools.
Beginning in 2023 we are pleased to offer sponsorships to area youth golf tournaments as well as donate to area athletic departments for equipment for student athletes.
Beginning 2024, the Richard Shingleton Foundation will provide a scholarship to one eligible high school senior golfer and bowler.
